Non-DAC deliveries: what every LPG distributor should know

By the DeskGas team · Updated

The Delivery Authentication Code has gone from a good practice to the norm for home deliveries. Here is what it is, why non-DAC deliveries draw attention, and how to keep yours under control.

In short

  • DAC is a one-time code sent to the consumer's registered mobile; it confirms the cylinder reached the right home.
  • The Ministry reported DAC-based deliveries at around 93% on 17 April 2026, alongside penalties on 255 distributorships.
  • Track non-DAC deliveries daily, by delivery man and reason, against the limit your oil company has given you.

What DAC is

When a consumer books a refill, a Delivery Authentication Code is sent to their registered mobile number. The delivery man asks for it at the door and enters it, which confirms the cylinder went to the consumer who booked it. If the code does not arrive, reports describe the consumer showing identity such as Aadhaar instead.

Why non-DAC deliveries draw attention

A delivery without the code is harder to prove. Diversion of domestic cylinders is exactly what the code is meant to stop, so a high share of non-DAC deliveries invites questions.

On 17 April 2026 the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas said DAC-based deliveries had increased to around 93% "to prevent diversion", and that oil companies had strengthened surprise inspections, imposing penalties on 255 distributorships and suspending 65.

Your limit

Oil companies give distributors a ceiling for non-DAC deliveries. Use the figure your own oil company has given you in writing; it can change. Under the Marketing Discipline Guidelines, irregularities are fined by instance over a two-year cycle, so a pattern costs more than a single slip.

Keeping your share low

  • Ask delivery men to record the reason for every non-DAC delivery the same day
  • Keep an agreed list of reasons: institution, consumer away, OTP not received, and so on
  • Look at the share per delivery man every week; one person is usually most of the problem
  • Help consumers update their registered mobile number at the counter
  • Watch the month-to-date share, not just the month-end figure

How DeskGas helps

The daily close records non-DAC deliveries per delivery man with a category. The dashboard shows the month's share against your limit as a green, amber or red meter, so you can act in the second week, not after an inspection.
